Speaking the language of your donors

Do you speak at, speak to, or speak with your donors...?

One of the common mistakes we can make as fundraisers and charities is to speak ‘at’ or ‘to’ our donors, and miss connecting with them. We can be so passionately focused (in a well-intentioned way) on the cause for which we serve, that we run the risk of missing the mark in communication and marketing.

We end up building content from the inside out not the donor back. One way to think about the shift is from organisation-focused marketing to donor-centric marketing.

With every piece of communications you release, ask yourself the question:

Am I speaking at, speaking to, or speaking with our donors...?
